Life Casting: Level I Laura Gravenstine instructs this introduction to body-safe materials using primarily alginates. This class is designed for artists who are new to life casting, beginners only please and will cover step-by-step instruction and demonstration from set-up to clean up. During the class students will cast their own hand and will be introduced to various casting material options. There will be an open Q & A session following the workshop. Life Casting: Level II Laura Gravenstine instructs this class that will cover the basics of Body Double, a skin-safe silicone molding material, using a single shell casting method. Students will be given step-by-step instruction on prepping their model, proper release agent use, silicone application techniques, and creating a successful positive cast. Other topics discussed will include various mother mold materials & techniques. There will be an open Q & A session following the workshop. Life Casting: Level III This session will demonstrate, from start to finish, the casting process of a human head-in-the-round, including face, ears, and hair with alginate. Topics discussed will include approximate amounts of materials needed to complete the cast of an average-sized adult head, prepping your model, seaming techniques, and pouring a hollow, positive cast in Hydrocal. The practical applications for Life Casting, which contribute to it being such a unique and interesting art form, will also be discussed. This class is available upon request.
